How to help a local musician collect 1,000 hats to distribute this winter

Posted

RICHMOND, Va. — A Richmond musician hopes to collect at least 1,000 hats in the next month to help people keep warm in the coming winter.

Singer and songwriter Erikka J is hosting a “Hustle for Hats” project. Her hope is that by donating something even as small as a beanie will do something to help the less fortunate stay a little warmer this year.

She is teaming up with RVA Feed the City, an event now in its seventh year.

The organization hosts an annual event in Monroe Park, around Thanksgiving every year, and provides hot meals and clothing to those who need it.

The donated hats will be distributed at the annual Feed the City event in Monroe Park in November.

Erikka wrote on Facebook:

The days are cooling down and fall is here. While many of us look forward to fall fashion and football Sundays, this also means that we are one season closer to the bitter cold that challenges our homeless brothers, sisters and children that have limited access to adequate heat. While I was fortunate enough to always have a roof over my head, I spent a good part of my childhood living in shelters or with family, picking through bags of donations for clothes and toys. For this reason, the circumstances of the less financially fortunate are close to my heart, and today I am launching my ‪#‎HustleForHats campaign.

The three locations where hats can be donated are:

  • Sneaker P 1839 Southpark Blvd. Colonial Heights
  • The Source House of Shoes 7805 Midlothian Tpk North Chesterfield
  • Monument 823 W. Broad St. Richmond

Funds raised at gofundme.com/hustleforhats will be used to purchase winter hats in bulk. Any excess monetary contributions will be donated directly to ‪‎RVA Feed the City.
