HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — More than 300 police body cameras have been issued to Henrico Police officers this year, police confirmed Monday. When all the cameras are distributed, there will be 416 body cameras in the county.

To date, Henrico Police have recorded 38,000 videos (taking up 4.24 terabytes of storage).

“Earlier this year we promised our community that we would push out the Fair and Impartial Policing training and issue 400 body cameras by the end of this calendar year,” Henrico Police Chief Douglas Middleton said. “This is a progress report. We are doing what we promised, and we are ahead of schedule. Because of the support of our elected Board of Supervisors, the County Manager and the Commonwealth’s Attorney, we will achieve our goal.”

The Fair and Impartial Policing training is a six-hour course that is “focused on providing police officers with the ability to understand implicit biases and how to deal with and manage them, noting that even well-intentioned people have biases.”
