PETERSBURG, Va. -- The man wanted for a September 1 murder outside a Petersburg grocery store turned himself in to police. Dwayne Hines, 44, and his lawyer walked into Petersburg Police Headquarters at about 1 p.m. Tuesday. Hines was wanted for the murder of Lawrence Johnson.
Police named Hines a suspect in the September 1 shooting outside Shortt's Grocery on Mistletoe Street in Petersburg. The shooting happened at 11 a.m. When officers arrived at the shooting scene, they found Johnson, 27, shot to death just outside the store's door.
Police have not yet released a motive in the shooting. Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Solvers at 804-861-1212.
