Walk-ons are the unheralded non-scholarship players who practice with the team, but don’t get to play as often as scholarship players.
That’s why a special announcement by Stanford head coach, David Shaw, sent one play into tears and his teammates into a frenzy.
Coach Shaw surprised senior walk-on linebacker Craig Jones by announcing he’s being put on scholarship for his senior season.
