SUNSET, La. — One police officer was wounded and taken to a hospital after a shooting Wednesday in Sunset, Louisiana, State Patrol Master Trooper Brooks David said.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said the male suspect is in custody after he barricaded himself briefly in an Exxon station after driving his car through the front door.

Three people in the store escaped and there were no hostages, the sheriff said.

Two people were stabbed at a home several blocks from the store where the Sunset police officer was shot, the sheriff said.

There were no immediate details on the severity of the wounds.

The suspect had some irritation to his eyes from tear gas. He was unhurt otherwise. He gave up once the SWAT team breached the office door behind which he was hiding.

The incident started as a domestic disturbance, State Sen. Elbert Guillory told CNN affiliate KATC.

Sunset is a town of about 3,000 people located some 15 miles north of Lafayette, Louisiana.
