PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. -- An investigation is underway after a 50-year-old pilot was injured when a small plane crash-landed in the woods behind a home near Manassas Regional Airport in Bristow, Va., Sunday morning.
WJLA reports crews were called to 9400 block of Upper Mill Loop just after 9 a.m. after the small plane hit some trees and came to rest in the woods behind a home.
The pilot was airlifted to a hospital with what were described as serious, but non-life threatening injuries, according to WJLA. No one on the ground was hurt.
According to a statement from the FAA, the accident happened as the pilot was practicing approaches at the airport.
WNEW reports the female pilot is a student at Dulles Aviation.
The pilot was later identified as Karyta Barnes of Alexandria.
Virginia State Police and the FAA are investigating what caused the crash.
