PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- A death investigation was underway early Friday morning after a burglary suspect was found dead on the roof of a Prince George County home.
Police have identified the suspect found deceased on the roof as Christopher Allen Garrett, age 26, of Hopewell.
Police were called to the home along the 10000 block of Jordan Parkway at 1:25 a.m. when the vacationing homeowner spotted someone in his house on his home security system.
The homeowner tells CBS 6 he was able to watch the burglar crawl through his home, apparently trying to avoid motion sensors, and that the man targeted his family's valuables.
"As entry was gained into the home, one gunshot was heard by officers," Prince George Police spokesman Capt. Brian Kei said. "The house was then illuminated by police who subsequently discovered a male subject on the roof who was deceased with an apparent gunshot wound to the head."
The homeowner said it appears nothing is missing from his home. Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call Prince George Crime Solvers at 804-733-2777.
At this time the Medical Examiner’s Office has not determined the manner and cause of death.
