Glen Allen woman dies in crash at Mechanicsville intersection

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. —  A Glen Allen woman was killed Saturday when the car she was riding in collided with a truck at the intersection of Studley Road and Rural Point Road in Mechanicsville, according to Hanover investigators. Crystal Mae Byers, 65,  of Glen Allen, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hanover Sheriff’s Sgt Matthew Ratchford said.

Byers was the passenger in a Nissan Xterra travelling east on Rural Point Road.The Nissan did not stop and yield right of way at the intersection with Studley Road, investigators said.

“The Nissan Xterra continued into the intersection and was struck on the passenger side by a 2002 International Truck traveling North on Studley Road,” Ratchford said. “The driver of the Nissan Xterra was transported to VCU Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.  None of the driver’s injuries appear life threatening. The driver of the International Truck reported no injuries.”

The crash was reported at about 3:40 p.m. Saturday. The cause of the remained under investigation.
