Grass can be measured in feet, not inches, on some city property

Posted

RICHMOND, Va. -- Grass growing at the intersection of Albany Avenue and 4th Street in Richmond's Manchester neighborhood can be measured in feet, not inches. The grass has grown so tall, a viewer reached out to WTVR CBS 6 to ask why the city is not properly maintaining this property south of the river.

The complainant said the tall grass contributed to a dangerous driving situation as drivers could not fully see what is happening with on-coming traffic.

City code requires property owners to cut grass and weeds once they grow to a  height of 12 inches. Code further dictates bushes, shrubs, hedges and other vegetation should not project into streets, alleys or sidewalks.

A request for comment from the city was submitted Monday. This post will be updated once a comment has been received.
