TAHITI – Robbie Maddison is being called the modern day Evil Knievel.
He’s pulled off stunts like backflipping off the Tower Bridge in London, jumping his bike 278 feet over the Corinth Canal in Greece, jumping up onto and off of the Arc de Triumph in Las Vegas, and he was James Bond’s “Skyfall” stunt double.
This time the stunt man rode his dirt bike on the ocean and surfed a wave. He was able to accomplish this with special ski-like devices around the wheels.
The stunt was completed off the coast of Tahiti, on the last day of a surf contest at Teahupoo and Papara.
He said he is the first person in history to surf on a motorcycle and he joined our affiliates in Los Angeles live on air to talk about it. Just click the video above.
DC Shoes says he has worked for two years making surfing on his dirt bike a reality. The shoe company plans to unveil a shoe called "Pipedream," in honor of the accomplishment.
