MUNDY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — All cooled off, Tomarra Richardson and her family had just come in from their pool, but 12-year-old Carin wasn’t ready to be done, WJRT reports.

Problem is, when she went back out, her 3-year-old sister slipped out unnoticed.

“Jac’Lynn got out and followed behind and attempted to get in her swim tube in the pool and went through to the bottom,” said Tomarra said.

Then, heroics from Carin.

“Without panic or fear, (Carin) grabbed her goggles, got in the water and pulled her sister out of the pool and into the house,” Tomarra said.

A terrified Tomarra was able to get a shocked Jac’Lynn to cough up some pool water, while another sister, Krystal Bishop, called 911. An ER visit confirmed the 3-year-old was OK – all thanks to Carin.

“She was our hero, she saved her sister’s life,” Tomarra said.

A big deal for any 12-year-old, but considering Carin has Down syndrome, the Richardson’s are calling the quick rescue miraculous.

“People with Down’s, I mean, they’re not always the fastest reactors,” Tomarra said.

“Carin definitely reacted really fast. I mean, she wasn’t really scared at all,” Bishop said.

Carin said it’s true, she wasn’t scared and she’s happy her sister Jac’Lynn is OK.

Her heroics are proof that love between sisters has no barriers.

“She is our hero and Jac’Lynn is our little miracle baby,” Tomarra said.

Since the accident, Tomarra says she’s added more locks to the pool. She also installed alarms at both her front and back doors, so she knows when they’re opened.
