RICHMOND, Va -- Richmond firefighters are beginning their annual 'Fill the Boot' fundraiser with a special event on Monday.
This is the 60th year firefighters from throughout the Richmond Metro area have partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for the effort. To celebrate the anniversary, they'll have a kickoff event at the James Center Plaza at noon. Area fire chiefs will be joined by Richmond City Council members Kathy Graziano and Reva Trammel.
Then, starting August 1, firefighters from Richmond, Petersburg, Hopewell and Colonial Heights, as well as Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, Goochland, King William, and Louisa will be throughout the area with boots to collect money for muscle disease research. The partnership is part of a national effort -- the International Association of Firefighters is the largest sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The fundraiser runs through Labor Day.
