BEAVERDAM, Va. -- A seven-year-old girl hurt during an accidental shooting was flown to VCU Medical Center Saturday, according to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting took place just after noon along the 20000 block of Beaverdam Road in Beaverdam.

"Upon arrival, the victim, a seven-year-old child was observed with injuries resulting from a handgun described as non-life threatening," Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sergeant Terry Sullivan said. "Investigators are still collecting information and consulting with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office regarding the circumstances that led to this tragic incident."

The child was shot in the calf, investigators said.

The Hanover commonwealth’s attorney said he does not expect charges to be filed.

As of Monday afternoon, investigators did not know if the child had been released from the hospital.

A helicopter landed in a field on a nearby farm to transport the child to the hospital.
