RICHMOND, Va -- Bon Secours has some new help to clean hospital rooms.

The Tru-D Smart UVC is a robot the hospital system is using to disinfect rooms after cleaning crews are done. The robot uses ultraviolet rays to kill disease-causing bacteria that may linger and make patients sick.

"The key is with human cleaning, which is vitally important, there still are unseen pathogens," says Khiet Trinh, Chief Medical Officer for Bon Secours. "With this, we're able to address those unseen dangers."

The robot can disinfect an entire room from one location, including hard-to-reach areas.

Bon Secours has six Tru-D robots throughout its several hospitals  in the Richmond metro area, including three at St. Mary's Hospital, one at St. Francis Medical Center, and one at Memorial Regional Medical Center.
