RICHMOND, Va. — The UCI Road World Championships is a high-profile, international sporting event taking place in the Richmond metro from Sept. 19-27, 2015.

As a result of bike race routes, GRTC bus routes will be diverted, but will continue to operate throughout the race dates.

Exact day-by-day detours for each route will be posted to the GRTC website in early August.

GRTC said to expect increased travel time for all modes of transit, including buses, during race events.

The detour routing will be during the entire transit day, not just during street closures and race events.

Detour routing and alternate bus stops will be available online at the Trip Planner tool on Sept. 5, 2015.  This tool will also be available on the GRTC Transit On The Go! mobile app beginning Sept. 19, 2015, when the Worlds races begin.

The Trip Planner tool uses Google Transit technology to connect customers to their destinations and help them plan their trips.

GRTC said that staff and signage will assist riders daily, and when in doubt, go to the Downtown Transfer Plaza behind Richmond City Hall.

A special event bus pass will be for sale, that allows riders to connect as much as need, from anywhere, on any route.

It will be good for unlimited rides anywhere GRTC goes during the Worlds.

The cost is $35 and the pass is  valid Sept. 18 – 28.

Bus riders can connect to exciting tourist destinations in the system, including Kings Dominion and historic Petersburg via the express service, and also to other destinations in the Greater Richmond Area along the Worlds route.

The passes go on sale Friday, August 21 at select regular vendors, in a new online store (coming soon), at RideFinders, in select area hotels (coming soon), and during the Worlds at the FanFest in the Convention Center and at the Transfer Plaza. The online spot will be updated soon, here.

According to GRTC, there will be limited quantities of the special event bus pass, so get yours early.

Ahead of the races, and for long-term convenience, GRTC recently installed new bus signage to make it easier for customers to ride GRTC.

For cell phone users, kiosk maps include the Bus Tracker estimated arrivals by text information.

Customers may also scan the QR code on the poster with a smart phone to go directly to the GRTC website and download bus route schedules, connect with GRTC Customer Service, or download the free GRTC Transit On The GO! mobile app.
