Family appreciates the love, asks for prayers after ‘ray of sunshine’ drowns in Chesterfield pool

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- The family of the two-year-old girl who drowned in a backyard pool said they appreciated the outpouring of love they received in the hours after their daughter's tragic death. Addyson Dawson, 2, was found unresponsive in an above-ground pool on Stanley Drive in Chesterfield Wednesday afternoon. She was pulled from the pool and given CPR. Addyson was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

The Dawson family released the following statement Thursday afternoon:

We the family of Addyson Dawson are grieving the loss of this wonderful ray of sunshine. This tragic accident has affected so many of us. As such, we would appreciate our privacy in our time of mourning. We do appreciate the outpouring of love and support and ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Addyson, please do so to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.

"Police continue to investigate this incident, but at this point foul play is not suspected," a Chesterfield Police spokesman said.
