NELSON COUNTY, Va. — Whitney Faith Loving, the winner of the Miss Nelson 2015 pageant, passed away Thursday morning, according to the Miss Nelson VA Pageant Facebook page. Her death comes two weeks after she crashed her Jeep on Glade Road in Nelson County on June 26. While Loving was being cared for by doctors at the University of Virginia Medical Center, a Prayers for Whitney movement took hold on social media. More than 11,000 people joined the #PrayersForWhitneyFaith page on Facebook.

“LET US REJOICE! For OUR ANGEL has earned the most GLORIOUS, MOST BEAUTIFUL WINGS JESUS had saved especially for her,” her parents Patton and Jeannie Loving posted on the page early Thursday morning. “She flew away at 2:00 am as we sang, “HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD” with our arms held high to LIFT HER UP to you FATHER. Although we are broken, we are comforted by an AMAZING PEACE knowing she is in the arms of Jesus.”

A vigil to honor the life of Whitney Loving is scheduled for Friday night at the Nelson County High School softball field.

“Please come out to show your love for Whitney as she looks down upon us,” her parents wrote.

The Miss Nelson Pageant posted Whitney Loving would remain Miss Nelson until next year’s pageant.

“Her platform at the pageant was ‘bringing God into peoples lives’ and boy did she ever! Over 11,000 people prayed daily for this young lady, many who shared that their faith had been restored because of Whitney’s story,” the pageant director posted. “There were things Whitney wanted to do before her reign was over, and I promise her family, friends, and Nelson County, to do everything I can to see them done. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.”

A GoFundMe account established to help Whitney’s parents cover her medical costs had swelled to nearly $10,000.
