Family worry about missing 81-year-old Albemarle man with medical condition

ALBEMARLE, Va. – The Albemarle County Police Department is searching for a missing 81-year old man.

Winferd Shirley Jarvis, known as Shirley, was last seen around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8. He was walking in the 7600 block of Rockfish Gap Turnpike near the Sunoco Gas Station.

At this point, there is no reason to suspect foul play, police said.

But the well-being of Mr. Jarvis’ is at the forefront given his age, medical history and the heat, police said.

The ACPD will continue to search in the area and work with his family on potential areas of interest.

The bloodhound, K-9 Lulu, is tracking the area where he was last seen.

Police are contacting neighboring jurisdictions.

We ask for the public to be on the lookout for Mr. Jarvis, especially if you are traveling along Rockfish Gap Turnpike, Plank Road or Ortman Road in western Albemarle County.

He was last seen wearing a blue checkered shirt, tan dress khakis, white knee high socks and dark brown dress shoes.

Mr. Jarvis has white or grey thinning hair and blue eyes.
