HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – A fire that broke out on the Fourth of July damaged two apartments in Henrico’s West End Saturday afternoon.

Henrico firefighters were dispatched to a fire at the Gayton Apartments in the 9000 block of Patterson Avenue just after 1:15 p.m.

“First arriving units made it on scene in four minutes and reported smoke from the front of the two-story apartment building. The firefighters found fire in the rear hallway in the second-story mechanical area of the apartment building,” Capt. Daniel Rosenbaum with Henrico County Division of Fire said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and the fire was marked under control just before 1:40 p.m.

Everyone made it out of the building safely.

Officials said two apartments were impacted. Three families will be displaced “for a short period of time,” according to firefighters.

The Fire Marshall’s Office is currently investigating what sparked the blaze.
