RICHMOND, Va. -- A 14-year-old boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a SUV on Jeff Davis Highway Sunday evening, according to Richmond Police. The collision which happened at about 6:26 p.m., was captured on a security camera outside a business along the 2700 block of the busy road.

"I guess he tried to cross the street a little too quickly or he didn't have brakes on his bike or something," eyewitness Katherine DeJesus said. "All I could say to myself was 'God please don't let this little boy be dead when I get to him.'"

DeJesus, who helped the child until emergency crews arrived said the SUV driver also stayed at the scene of the accident.

"The man stopped immediately after the hit and got out of his car. It looked like he was really feeling the pain of him hitting the child with his car," DeJesus said.

Youdah Najjar, who owns Golden Food Market near the crash scene, said he was not too surprised a child was hit by a vehicle.

"It's been a dangerous intersection. Within five years there's been up to five to eight accidents, some really dangerous and people get hurt badly," he said. "A lot of kids here don't follow the safety rules and please drivers school is out a lot of kids around with bicycles, so pay attention."

The investigation into the crash remained on-going.
