RICHMOND, Va. -- A fiery crash that involved a truck carrying cars and a work truck has closed the right lane of Interstate 95 south in downtown Richmond, according to VDOT and Virginia State Police. All southbound lanes were closed several hours Thursday morning until the
left and center lanes reopened at about 6:45 a.m. Detours were in place to get traffic around the incident that happened near mile marker 75 where Interstates 95 and 64 split.
"There is one fuel tank that needs to be cleared, therefore until the fire department can clear the tank the south bound lanes will remain closed. VDOT has detours in place, motorists should use alternate routes," Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said prior to the lanes reopening.
Traffic was being re-rerouted off of Interstate 95 at to Exit 75 (I-64 east/7th St.) around the crash. All northbound lanes of Interstate 95 are open at this time.
The crash happened at about 3 a.m. There are no reported injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. This is a developing story.
