PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. -- About 15 families were evacuated from their Puddledock Place apartments overnight while police negotiated with a man who barricaded himself inside his home. The man was armed with a weapon.

When officers arrived at the complex at about 1 a.m., a man later identified as Ismael Nelson-Bey, pulled out a  shotgun, racked a shell and point the gun at police, investigators said. The officers drew their weapon and backed away from the door. Officers later went door to door and asked people to evacuate the apartment building while a special task force and negotiators were called in to help handle the situation.

Police eventually convinced Nelson-Bey to safely exit his apartment. No one was harmed and the families were allowed back inside their homes at 5 a.m.

Nelson-Bey was charged with brandishing a firearm and assault on a police officer. Other charges are pending, police said. Anyone with additional information about this situation can email a news tip here.
