RICHMOND, Va. -- A Central Virginia veteran who was having trouble getting the money she was promised through a Veterans Benefits Administration program is thanking CBS 6 News for helping resolve the problem.

CBS 6 reporter Chelsea Rarrick started making calls after Julie Allen said that she was unable to enroll in classes and was not receiving the full amount of money she was owed.

Allen said that the VCO rehab program she was enrolled in through the Veterans Benefits Administration allows her to get money to fund her classes and helps put food on her table.

But she recently stopped receiving the money and discovered that her classes set to begin in June had not been paid for.

"It's just not right. I don't understand how we can go through so much for our country and once you're done fighting, you have to keep fighting," Allen said.

After Allen made little headway, CBS 6 News spoke with an official from the Veterans Benefit Administration who said Allen's claims would be investigated.

By the time Allen made it to the office Thursday, she said she was again registered for school and had received the back pay from one of the payments.

Allen was later told that her original representative had retired without notice. She was also told that she will have two temporary representatives until a permanent agent is assigned.
