Overnight industrial fire damages Chester business

CHESTER, Va. -- Investigators are working to determine the cause of an overnight industrial fire in Chester. Firefighters responded to reports of flames at Conner Industries in the 1200 block of Old Stage Road around 2 a.m. Saturday. Police shut down a section of the road as crews battled the flames.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, but fire officials said the fire caused substantial damage to a quarter of the facility. There is significant smoke damage throughout the building.

The Chesterfield Fire and EMS Chief John Boatwright said the business makes wooden pallets. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire.

Police reopened Old Stage Road around 6:30 a.m.
