WTVR CBS 6 wins four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – WTVR CBS 6 news is honored to announce that the station has received four Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association.

This year we are pleased to announce four regional awards.

“Our news team is proud to receive this recognition for our hard work,” news director Sheryl Barnhouse said. “We have a talented and dedicated team of veteran journalists who strive for excellence every day, telling the stories that are relevant to Central Virginia”.

 WTVR won Murrows for the following reports:

 Feature Reporting:  “Two CBS 6 employees under 40 are sharing their battles with cervical and breast cancer” (Reporter Tracy Sears; photojournalist Jesse Burkett-Hall)

Sports Reporting: “Reaching Home: The Story of Third Baseman Ray Dandridge” (Reporter Greg McQuade; photojournalist Jesse Burkett-Hall)

Use of Sound/Video: “Largest Civil War prison break is tale of courage and bravery” (Reporter Greg McQuade; photojournalist Jesse Burkett-Hall)

Tribune Broadcasting is pleased to announce that eight of its broadcast television stations total were awarded 12 Edward R. Murrow Awards.

WTVR CBS 6 received the most awards per station, and KDVR/KWGN in Denver received the highest honor, an award for Overall Excellence.

“We are extremely proud of the award-winning work produced by Tribune Broadcasting’s news teams,” said Bart Feder, SVP/News. “We are honored to be recognized by the RTDNA with 12 Murrow Awards, one of journalism’s highest achievements.”
