RICHMOND, Va. -- A 62-year-old Midlothian woman was killed Sunday afternoon after she drove into oncoming traffic and was struck by an RV on I-95 at the Bryan Park interchange in Richmond.

Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said the two-vehicle wreck happened at 2:18 p.m. on I-95 north at mile marker 79.

"A 2004 Mazda Tribute was on the ramp from Laburnum Avenue to 64 west at the I-95 Bryan Park interchange when the driver made and improper left turn into oncoming traffic. The Mazda was struck on the driver side by a west bound 2014 Thor Challenger RV," Vick wrote in a news release.

Officials said Edith I. Cruz of Midlothian was transported to VCU Medical Center where she died from her injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt.

State police said that the driver of the RV, 70-year-old Glen W. Whitmore of Berkley, WVa., was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt.

State police are investigating the accident.

The crash closed the ramp from I-95 north to I-64 west and also the I-95 south ramp to I-64 west until just after 5 p.m.
