RICHMOND, Va - Dr. Mitchell Merling, Paul Mellon Curator and Head of European Art, shared his excitement about a project six years in the making, the ‘Art of the Flower’ exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibit features the works of Van Gogh, Manet, Matisse, and many more and explores the infusion of new spirit and meaning into the traditional genre of floral still-life painting in 19th-century France. With over 60 flower paintings by more than 30 artists, the exhibit is ultimately transformed into a meditation on the nature of artistic representation. The exhibit runs from Saturday, March 21st through June 21st at The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, located at 200 N. Boulevard. For more information call 804-340-1400 or visit www.vmfa.museum.
