RICHMOND, V.a — Seizing on the Valentine’s Day holiday, many local organizations are offering incentives to get potential adopters out to meet their potential match, their Furry cat or dog Valentine.

1. Local pit bull rescue and advocacy groups, Ring Dog Rescue and Gracie’s Guardians, are partnering with Chesterfield County Animal Services to host a Valentine’s Day themed adoption event, promoting homeless animals in Chesterfield County for adoption. That event is on Valentine’s Day, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Chesterfield County Animal Services, 9300 Public Works Road. The two pit bull groups have conducted temperament testing on a number of dogs to help better understand for what type of home they are best be suited.

2. The Richmond SPCA has reduced all adoption fees for all pets by 25 percent, through Saturday, which is Valentine’s Day. The Robins-Starr Humane Center is located at 2519 Hermitage Road in Richmond.

3. TheRichmond Animal League offers specials as well, with adoption fees for cats two for one, at $10 and adult dogs (over six months) at $75. The event runs from Friday, Feb. 13 – Sunday, Feb. 15. Visit 11401 International Drive in Richmond.

4. Richmond Animal Care & Control will offer adoptions for just $14 (usually $100), which include spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, microchip and all the snuggles you can handle. They are open Sat. from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The shelter is located at 1600 Chamberlayne Ave. in Richmond.

During this time of human compassion and tenderness, the groups would like to remind the Richmond area “that all creatures, whether two legged or four, deserve to feel special and wanted on Valentine’s Day.”

At the time of publication, Henrico Animal Shelter and Hanover Animal Shelter have not returned calls about possible adoption specials.
