Adrian Loya (upper left) is charged after police said he attacked Petty Officer Anna Trubnikova (blonde, left) and killed Petty Officer Lisa Trubnikova (dark hair, right) and wounded a police officer and also set fire to car to thwart police.

BOURNE, Ma. – A Portsmouth-based Coast Guardsman was arrested in Massachusetts after he allegedly shot two Coast Guard petty officers who were a married lesbian couple — fatally killing one — and a police officer.

Adrian Thomas Loya, age 31, is an active duty petty officer 3rd class stationed in Portsmouth since 2013.

Police initially came upon the crime scene when they responded to a car on fire. When they arrived on scene for that call, there were suddenly reports of a shooting at an apartment complex; access to the apartments was blocked by the burning car.

“It certainly was an ambush of the police officers and it was a home invasion with respect to the two adult female victims,” said Michael O’Keefe, Cape and Islands District Attorney

Police officer Jared MacDonald was shot in the back and faces a long recovery, according to police. Petty Officer Lisa Trubnikova, 31, was killed and Petty Officer Anna Trubnikova, 30, was wounded in the attack. Both were stationed in Massachusetts.

A motive has not been disclosed at this time, though WBZ-TV reported that sources said he had a prior relationship with one of the women. Chesapeake Police, Massachusetts Police and Virginia State Police recently issued a warrant at Loya’s residence in the 800 block of Shoal Creek Trail, according to WTKR.

Loya now faces eight charges, including a ssault and battery on a police officer, murder and home invasion. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently being held without bail. A judge ordered him to be held without bail and to undergo a mental health examination.

Rear Adm. Linda Fagan offered her thoughts and prayers for the families, friends and loved ones of those affected by the shooting, according a statement posted on Mlitary.com.

“In committing our support to them, our focus turns to remembering the life and service of Petty Officer Lisa Trubnikova and aiding the recovery of Petty Officer Anna Trubnikova,” she said in a statement.

She acknowledged the speedy response of the Bourne Police Department and said it “saved the life of Petty Officer Anna Trubnikova and removed the threat to the community.” She thanked MacDonald, a Coast Guard veteran.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to those in the community and the Coast Guard family who stand alongside us as we mourn the tragic loss of Petty Officer (2nd Class Lisa Trubnikova) and wish the speedy recovery of Petty Officer 3rd Class Anna Trubnikova and Officer Jared MacDonald,” she said.
