RICHMOND, Va. -- This scam is impacting anyone who stays in hotels in the Tri-Cities, Chester and Prince George. According to hotel employees, an individual is gaining access to their internal phone system calling rooms and asking for credit card numbers.

They say guests are falling for this because, they think it is the hotel front desk calling and they need your credit card on file. According to employees, the scammer often does this late at night and pretends it is part of updating the guest’s reservation. Again it’s unclear how they are doing this, but they appear to be gaining access after they ask to be transferred to the hotel manager’s voicemail.

“Never ever give any information out always come down to the front desk,” said hotel owner, Rita Patel. “Never give your credit card just like you are at your house and somebody called you.”

This scam is apparently impacting major chains like the Holiday Inn and Comfort Suites.
