RICHMOND, Va. -- Two different fights broke out among John Marshall High School students, one involved a visitor, on Wednesday.

The first fight began around 2:11 p.m., and involved a Petersburg City juvenile male and two females who attend John Marshall, according to Richmond Police Spokesperson James Mercante.

A Petersburg juvenile, who was originally at the school to visit a female student, was arrested and taken to the juvenile detention center.

A short time later, six or seven males got into a fight, and at this time police are not sure if that was related to the first scuffle.

Staff members and security tried to break up the fight. One security officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries sustained while breaking up the fight, said police spokesperson Cletisha Lovelace.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the other students involved in the second fight but there could be charges pending.

There is a basketball game tonight at the school and police do not know at this time if there will be extra security present as John Marshall takes on Freeman High School.
