GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- The shattered glass filled two parking spaces outside the YMCA in Glen Allen. Henrico Police said around 3:30 p.m. Saturday a woman came outside and saw glass near her car after someone smashed in the window and stole her purse and wallet.
"People these days are just inappropriate," one gym goer said after she learned about the crime.
While the smash and grab victim was looking at the damage done to her car, she told police she saw a man one row over looking into other cars. Police said the victim yelled and asked what the man was doing, but he got into a black Jeep Grand Cherokee and the driver drove off.
Police did not released a detailed description of the man.
Police said they believed only two cars had their windows smashed out. Still, those who go to the YMCA said it is a reminder to never leave your valuables in plain sight.
"Protect yourself and protect your stuff," YMCA member Deseree Bey said. "You don't want people getting your social security card, your identification."
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
