SCHILLER PARK, Ill. — A suburban Chicago mother was arrested for attempting to kill her children with poisoned apple juice, according to a report on WGNTV.com.

Krystle El Khatib, 29, of Schiller Park, Illinois tried to kill her children because she was upset with their father, police said.

She forced her nine-year-old son and four-year-old daughter to drink juice she mixed with crushed-up anti-anxiety pills, according to prosecutors. She tried to kill herself with the same dangerous cocktail, they added.

Police were notified after her son woke up vomiting and called his father. The children were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. Police found the mother inside the suburban Chicago home and took to the hospital.

El Khatib told a social worker at the hospital that she "brought her kids into this world and she can take them out," according to a criminal complaint.

El Khatib is charged with attempted murder and being held in jail under a $1.5 million bond.
