COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. — The driver of an SUV that burned along the side of Interstate 95 Thursday morning said he pulled over because he could tell his vehicle was having mechanical problems.
Moments after he pulled over, near Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights, fire shot out of the glove box, according to the Deputy Fire Colonial Heights Fire Marshall Joe Boisseau.
The driver was not seriously hurt. The center lane and right lanes of Interstate 95 were closed at 9 a.m. so firefighters could put out the flames.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
