HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — An 87-year-old woman pulled from a burning Hanover home Monday has died.

“The deceased has been identified as Ilma P. Stone,” Hanover Fire – EMS spokesman Jason Williams said. “We extend our sincerest condolences to the family as they attempt to deal with this tragic loss.”

When firefighters arrived at the home along the 12000 block of Greenwood Road Monday morning, flames were shooting through the roof.

“Crews had information that an elderly female [Ilma P. Stone] was still inside the home and immediately went into a rescue mode of operation,” Hanover Fire-EMS spokesman Jason Williams wrote in an email. “Firefighters quickly located the occupant and rescued her from the fire.”

Stone was taken to VCU Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.

The fire, reported at about 11:22 a.m., appears to have started in the kitchen. The Hanover Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine what exactly caused the fire.
