AMELIA COUNTY, Va. — An incident involving a school resource officer was reported Wednesday at the Amelia County Middle School, and is under investigation.

The conduct described, according to the sheriff’s office, included an angry outburst by the deputy and use of inappropriate language.

The incident evolved after a student threw a grape and struck the deputy in the back of the head, in the school cafeteria during lunch period.

The SRO has been removed from his duties at the school and a departmental investigation has been initiated.

A statement was posted by Ricky Walker, Sheriff of Amelia.

“I feel that the professional behavior of all deputies is important to our community relations,” Walker wrote. “All officers of the Amelia Sheriff’s Office should present themselves as positive role models to all citizens they serve.”

ok,seriously…little kid whacks sheriff’s deputy in the back of the head with a grape (something he’ll brag about until the day he dies ) and the deputy gets ticked and says something.Maybe he says nothing worse than you may say to your own child.Maybe the kid deserved it.Maybe we made a story on local news for…uh….

Absolutely ridiculous! People need to get out of the mindset that kids get a free pass because they are kids. The student obviously has no respect for authority. If it would’ve occurred outside the school, a law enforcement officer would’ve done the same if not more. Why should it be any different in school? The Officer has my support on this one.

Sounds like it should be classified as “assault on a police officer” and the kid should be arrested and suspended from school!

It appears someone needs to get the attention of the little twirp. Amelia you need to stand behind your deputy.
Deputy you may want to look at working for another jurisdiction, which you probably already are.

I will stand behind this deputy. I have children at this school and so many kids there have no respect for adults. Maybe if more adults lost their patience on these brats, things might change! Not to mention, the way these kids talk..his comments were “g-rated” in comparison!!!

Let me guess…this child has a mental issue and is probably on adderall so anything he does is overlooked because he just cant help himself. So he goes unpunished and gets a few laughs from his friends. I don’t think the deputy should be removed from his job because of a slip of the tongue edged on by an unruly kid. Just like the bus driver that was fired last week. Seems amelia county likes to make up the rules to suit them. Start digging up the bones in this school system and county and you’d be very surprised on what you find.

I wonder how many times this deputy helped people in the county? How many times he took someone off the road that could have caused injury or death? How many times he was the only deputy on partrol in Amelia county after midnight when he was the only law enforcement officer on duty in the entire county? How many times his life was at risk while protecting citizens and property in the county? How many kids did he help not just at the school but throughout the county? Someone speak up on his behalf, I feel certain he has received a raw deal or at the least is the subject of an uncaring sheriff or other elected offical. I ask these questions because I know the sheiff could have taken a different course than he did and I know this deputy has helped many in our community.
