Serious crash closes lanes in eastern Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- One lane of Nine Mile Road in eastern Henrico is closed in each direction after a morning crash sent two cars into the median. Photos taken from the crash scene along the 5900 block of Nine Mile show one car flipped into a utility pole.

A witness who submitted a photo on the WTVR CBS 6 Facebook page said it appeared both drivers survived the serious crash. Henrico Police also confirmed there were no fatalities, but added the drivers were rushed to VCU Medical Center.

An initial investigation revealed a red Chevy may have crossed over the median on Nine Mile Road and hit a silver Saturn - causing the crash.

    It does not surprise me that the Saturn split in half. I pray that the person or people in the car survived. My son had a Saturn and hit a tree sideways. The car did not split but it did disintegrate. They are very cheaply made cars and should be removed for the market!

      I totally agree Debbie. My wife also had one and the front in caved in accident with another car. She was told, “the car is designed to do that”. Best wishes for those involved.

        Yes, the car IS designed to do that. Would you rather it not absorb the impact and thus transfer all that energy to the driver? All cars are, in some way, are designed to collapse in certain areas on impact, especially the front end. It helps save peoples lives. Obviously, a car is not a slow moving tank and it can’t protect you from everything.
