Gas leak prompts downtown hotel evacuation

RICHMOND, Va. — The Doubletree Hotel on West Franklin Street was evacuated Friday afternoon due to a natural gas leak.

The hotel is located at 301 West Franklin Street, near North Madison Street, in downtown Richmond.

The smell of natural gas prompted the evacuation at about 3:45 p.m., Richmond Fire Lt. Armstrong said.

As of 4:15 p.m. the incident had been marked under control. However, units were still on the scene performing checks.

Gas in the area was cut off in the areas as a precaution.
