Commonwealth sets aside charges against former sheriff’s deputy accused of rape

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. — Charges filed against a former Dinwiddie Sheriff’s Deputy were been nolle prossed during a hearing this week.  Darryl Hayes, of Dinwiddie, was indicted in April of rape, incest and sodomy against a family member. The indictments stated the alleged crimes happened between March and August of 2012.

Duncan Minton, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Chesterfield County and Special prosecutor for the case, would not comment as to why the charges were set aside, but added the Commonwealth has the option to re-instate charges at a later time.
