UPDATE: Gift cards redeemed at salon after Nesbit closes its doors

RICHMOND, Va. -- After 19 years, a popular Richmond salon and day spa pampered its last customer after closing down without warning this week.

Nesbit owners Greg and Carol Nestor, who informed employees Wednesday night they were shutting down the business, have not been heard from since.

"They kind of told the staff that they were closing business and everyone was terminated at that time," Nesbit property owner Michael Wood said.

Wood said he sold the business to the Nestors in 2007.

Former Nesbit customer Maria Lloyd, who has been coming to the Richmond salon and day spa for 10 years, was shocked to find a closed and for sale sign on the door when she arrived Friday.

Esthetician Meagan Crawford is one of about 20 Nesbit employees who have had to break the news to loyal clients that they are out of hundreds of dollars.

"I think Nesbit is a Richmond institution and they took a little something away from all of Richmond and destroyed people's faith, people's loyalty," Crawford said.

The property went on the market Friday afternoon. Landlord Michael Wood said he is open to renting or selling the property.

Wood is also trying to accommodate Nesbit's faithful client base and put them in touch with salon and spa staff.
