New Kent Deputy struck directing traffic

NEW KENT COUNTY – A New Kent Deputy was struck by a pickup truck while directing traffic in New Kent County earlier this afternoon.

Virginia State Police tell us the Deputy was directing traffic around 11:00 a.m. for the Martin’s Tour of Richmond race in the eastbound lane of New Kent Highway when a 2001 Dodge pickup struck him from behind.

Police said the pickup truck was heading through the intersection at the direction of another Deputy that was assisting with traffic at that location. The Deputy was transported to MCV hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This crash remains under investigation.
