NEW KENT COUNTY –  A cyclist participant of the Martin’s tour of Richmond is recovering from his injuries this evening after being hit by a pickup truck about 2 miles west of the Hanover line.

According to Virginia State Police, 12-15 bicyclists were traveling west on Rt. 606 this morning, when one of the cyclist turned left, clipped another bike in the process, which caused  three cyclists to go down.

Police say one cyclist fell into oncoming traffic  and was then hit by a 2003 GMC pickup.   We’re told that cyclist was transported to MCV hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

We’re told that the motorist could not avoid the cyclist, but speed was not a contributing factor in this accident. Charges are not pending at this time.

CBS 6 will continue to follow this story and provide any new details as they come into the newsroom.
