BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. -- A cold case investigation has brought detectives from Maryland to Bedford County, Virginia.

Police from Montgomery County, Maryland, which is right outside Washington D.C., are searching the Taylor's Mountain area of Bedford County, near Thaxton.

They've been on scene, questioning people and searching property on the mountain, since last Thursday.

Police are searching a property in the 3400 block of Taylor Mountain Road.

Investigators believe answers to the disappearance of two sisters is on Taylor Mountain. Katherine Lyon, 10, and Sheila Lyon, 12, were last seen at a suburban Washington D.C. shopping mall in 1975, reported WDBJ.

The land is currently owned by a woman with a Florida address. The property that's being searched was once owned by an Elizabeth Welch Parker. Her nephew was a man named Michael Welch, who used to live in this area but is now in prison.

He's also a person of interest in the disappearance of the Lyon's sisters.

Investigators have been questioning people who live on the mountain.

Many of them are now anxiously waiting to find out what's behind all this activity.

"I've just seen a lot of cops and stuff coming in and out of here. A lot of vehicles, but they're all cops. It don't make you feel too good, especially when you don't know what's going on,” said Paul Amos.
