RICHMOND, Va. -- Detectives continued canvassing the Meadow Creek apartments after a double shooting in the parking lot Monday night.

"I was scared, nervous," said an unidentified neighbor. "When I first heard the gunshots, my first thought was to go check out my son who was sleep in the other room."

Richmond Police say 26-year-old Saquenta Dixon and 26-year-old Andre Todd were shot to death in the complex parking lot off Hull Street. Investigators cannot yet say what led up to the shooting.

"I heard the two arguing with two other women moments before the shooting," the neighbor said.

The couple shared the apartment unit.

While the chaotic scene unfolded outside, Richmond Police discovered a one-year-old baby inside the apartment.

"I saw just a little girl sitting in the middle of the floor. Sitting there quiet at first. But kind of whining. We saw that she was okay she didn't look injured," said Richmond Police Sergeant James Killingsworth.

Sergeant Killingsworth said he comforted the little girl to make sure she was safe.

"Anytime you got a child involved it pulls at your heart-strings," Killingsworth said. "You kind of process through it. But you always hope, you hope that little girl -- despite this tragedy --  she can go on and have a full life. A good life."

While police search for the gunman, Jose Michel, who owns La Magia Barbershop nearby, said he wanted to see more police patrolling the neighborhood.

He said crime hurts his business.

"I think that's really bad for the area. But I see a lot of people walking around here," said Michel. "We need more police."

Investigators are still searching for a motive in this shooting and are asking the public for help to find the gunman.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 804-780-1000.
