NEW YORK — Two weeks ago we were at the beach saying goodbye to summer, so it’s way too early to get into the Christmas spirit, right? Wrong. Mixed in with the Halloween decorations, which popped up in area stores in August, some shoppers have reported seeing Christmas items for sale in Central Virginia.
A new online ad for Kmart seems to poke fun at the “early Christmas craze.” Posted to Youtube, the Kmart ad wants everyone to know that it is “too early for Christmas commercials” and their commercial is not one.
Instead, the woman in the video asks, “What if you have a event or a birthday in late December that you need gifts for? Buy them now and put them in layaway and then pick them up for the big ‘non-Christmas’ celebration. So if you don’t want to feel guilty buying Christmas gifts in September celebrate the Kmart way. Merry Birthday everyone!”
Kmart released the commercial on September 12 — 104 shopping days until Christmas.
