Breastfeeding battle between Chesapeake mom and Big Woody’s

big woodysCHESAPEAKE, Va. (WTKR) – A Chesapeake business has seen the ire of breastfeeding moms on social media, and they insist there is another side to the story.

A mother says she was confronted by a manager, and she took to Facebook claiming Big Woody’s Bar & Grill gave her the boot because she bared her breast while feeding her 11-month-old baby.

The manager said he received complaints from patrons because the mother was sipping on a shot and a beer.

“It’s not easy to go and talk to someone and say you’re breastfeeding but you’re drinking too,” he said.

The mother Chrystal admitted to WTKR that she didn’t plan on drinking the alcohol until she was finished nursing.

“I had a huge water, I was downing,” she explained. “I had a beer and a shot of Fireball in front of me but that was for after I was done.”

“And I had one sip of beer and I’m not planning on the rest until after I’m done nursing,” she added.

People on Facebook have been airing their feelings on the situation, mostly about the rights of mothers to breastfeed, but not much is mentioned about the objections the patrons made about seeing a mother consume alcohol while breastfeeding.

The mother, who says she is a chemist, plans on a nurse-in demonstration at the restaurant.

The co-owner Jeff Leroy says women are allowed to breastfeed at Big Woody’s, and they plan to retrain their staff to improve their approach — if and when these sensitive matters come up.

Oh, Gawd. Strike up the Democratic Women Warriors. We don’t have enough problems, enough Division, enough
debauchery, and enough Conflicts Domestically and World Wide. Their Rights to Flaunt and Ramrod breast feeding inyoface, overrides, usurps, and circumvents every other human being Rights… and in a bar of all places.

Democratic Women Warriors, huh? Did you read the article? People complained not because she was breastfeeding in public, but because she appeared to be imbibing while she did, bringing up misinformed concerns about the welfare of the child. That’s just smacks of busy-body, nanny state loving, democrats.

The breastfeeding itself is just a normal part of life, and in no way overrides, usurps, or circumvents anyone’s rights. Demanding that a mother not breastfeed in public, and by the nature of breastfeeding mechanics, thus essentially forcing her to stay home and out of the public sphere altogether, you are in fact repressing and ramrodding women of all political stripes who nourish their children as designed.

Breast fed and never found the need to make a public spectacle of it, either for the benefit, needs,
or attention of myself, the baby, or the presiding government.
Don’t think the Party of Outrage can or will change my opinion. I have a “Right” to it.

Too bad she wasn’t in Colorado, she could have done a few bongs to help nurture her soon to be brain damaged child…

Breastfeeding is ok, we should allow for that even in Restaurants. In combination with alcohol.. not a good idea.

Guess what? You can test the alcohol content if your breastmilk after consuming alcohol. Know what you’ll find? That an half an hour after you’ve consumed the proof of your milk will be at about 0.04%. Now, some simple math to get an idea of what will be left by the time babes is ready to say again: approx 2 hours later. Who here drinks a beer and has a shot and still feels the effects of those two beverages after two hours?

You can drink a beer while baby is nursing and it will not matter one bit. You are all just finding fault in a woman brave enough to not care about what others think about her breastfeeding in public.

    Get over yourselves.

What I don’t get is why the mother brought the baby to a bar. A bar is an adult establishment, and IMO, never a place for babies or underage children. If you want to go to a bar, find a babysitter, pump some milk, and have at it. It’s really not about breastfeeding at all. It is about having a baby in a bar.

Plenty of restaurants are bars also. Plenty of family establishments for dining serve alcohol. Drinking alcohol isn’t bad to do. It’s ok that children see you do it and you explain that that’s what adults get to do. What exactly is the issue here?!?! We, as adults, are allowed to enjoy ourselves and it’s ok that children see us doing that. Or a maybe we shouldn’t bring our children to the grocery store because alcohol is sold there.
