Melissa Haislip, age 23, died in a three-car accident near Rockett’s Landing in June.

Haislip was a graduate of Longwood University and Varina High School.

The sisters of the Gamma Lambda chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta established an online fundraiser to donate a memorial bench to Longwood University in Melissa Haislip’s name.

“Melissa was a friend to all, a wonderful sister of Alpha Gamma Delta, and a valued member of the nursing department at Longwood. She knew how to light up a room the moment she walked in, how to turn your day around and make you laugh. Not a day goes by that she is not thought of by the many that knew and loved her. She will forever be apart of our lives. Any donation you could give would be greatly appreciated! Also, feel free to leave a special message about Melissa in the comments, we would love to hear your stories!”

The goal is $3,000 and over $1,800 has been raised in a day.

The man driving the vehicle that struck Haislip was charged. Polic said his Dodge Charger struck Haislip’s Chevrolet Camaro that was traveling south on Old Osborne Turnpike. Haislip was pronounced dead at the scene.
