Group asks Kroger to ban its customers from openly carrying guns

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — The Moms group that got Target, Chili’s and Chipotle to take a stance against guns called on Kroger to do the same Monday.

The organization, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, wants the grocery chain to ban customers from openly carrying guns in its stores.

The demand comes after a woman shot and killed her husband and then herself in Georgia at a Kroger parking lot in June, and other gun-related incidents at Kroger stores, the group said in a news release.

In dozens of states, including Georgia, openly carrying a gun is legal.

Kroger is one of the largest supermarket chains in the country, operating 2,642 super markets and nearly 1,000 convenience stores.

The gun control advocacy group was founded in response to the Sandy Hook school shooting and has partnered with billionaires Michael Bloomberg and Warren Buffett.

It has had success with its past campaigns. In May, Chipotle, Sonic and Chili’s restaurants folded under intense public pressure and asked customers to leave their guns at home. Target followed suit in July.

Kroger’s has a policy posted on its website on customers carrying firearms in its stores. While it doesn’t specifically ask customers to stop carrying guns into stores, it asks that they follow state and local laws and be respectful of others while shopping.

Kroger can change their policy to make a few idiots happy. If that is the case, then I will be happy to buy my groceries elsewhere. My carry policy is my spend policy, if I can’t carry my weapon in an establishment, then I don’t need to spend my money in that place.

whats the point in banning open carry? Anyone who is bent on murdering someone is not exactly going to abide by a ban on open carry. only innocent law-abiding people will, and leave themselves vulnerable to someone who isn’t.

Banning open carry inside of kroger is not going to stop people from shooting someone in the parking lot. And no, i don’t carry a handgun.

Hmmmm…..How do we ‘Protect Ourselves’ when ‘Looter’s’ decide to ‘Trash’ a Kroger’s…??????

I carry concealed anyway unless I am on the motorcycle, in which case, it is hard to carry concealed. If you don’t want my gun in your store, then you don’t want the money I have to spend either. Wait till on the this “mom’s” group precious darling gets killed by one who could care less whether there is an open carry policy or not and they find out something may could have been done, but b/c they are so STUPID, they had a chain ban open carry (and someone could have stepped in) and see if things don’t change. Guess they voted for that militant clown who resides in the grey house too. Enough said

All of the gun worshipers and nutcases will come out of the woodwork on this comment page. Well, no one ever said that all Americans were intelligent or civilized. These gunner maniacs (suffering from Gunorrhea) are proof positive of the existence of the low class in America.

Well feel free Sam to move out of this country anytime since you think we are so low classed. Don’t let the border hit you where the good Lord split you

Anyone can carry a gun, the back ground check will not show if you r hot tempered, a sweetheart, a person that hates the prices @ Kroger, a control freak, a person that cannot tolerate screaming kids, or very calm person who is struggling to make a car payment & all options are exhausted………I don’t want to be there when that person hits the last straw.

    • Jim

I don’t want to be there when that person reaches their last straw on the opposite side of the highway doing 65 and decides I am the best vehicle around to run head on into. I say we ban cars, because thousands more die from cars daily than from guns yearly.

Do you see how stupid that sounds? Do you realise that legal gun owners accounts for less than 1/10th of 1% of the gun crime in America?
If a criminal wants to take a gun into Kroger a little sign telling them not to isn’t going to stop them, but they will know right away there won’t be a single legally armed person in that place.

So which one are you SUS? You could go off at any moment and for any reason and if you do not have a gun are you going to use another form of destruction? How about the people who stab another person, beats someone with a bat or hammer. We need to start getting permits to have these things?? Get over yourself and bet if someone ever holds a gun to you and the good guy shoots him you’ll be saying THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

When that last straw lands I want you or someone like you between them and me . I’ll feel so much safer with you there to protect me.

If it takes carrying my gun to keep me safe then I will do it. I don’t have to buy any thing from a store that doesn’t allow me to have my rights. These women need to learn it is not the gun that kills, it the sick people behind them.

  • Robo

Just because you can does not make it right. There is no need to have an open gun in a store with families and children. I am all for folks being able to own and carry their weapons but not to every place they want. There should be some limits for those that need guidance.
