Hanover Tomato Festival, is Saturday, July 12, 9am – 4pm at Pole Green Park, 8996 Pole Green Park Lane in Mechanicsville. Stock up on Hanover Tomatoes, listen to live music, enter the tomato contests and taste all the tomato dishes you can. There’s also children’s activities, rides, a petting zoo and more. 8th Annual Halifax Jazz and Blues Festival, July 11 – 13, The festival takes place at the Historic Halifax Triangle in the City of Petersburg; Friday, July 11, A Tribute to the late Mitch Malone, Richmond Radio DJ & Personality, performances from The James Saxsmo Gates Quintet featuring Carlton Blount, also performing are Sharron, G-Factor, Mr. Rick Elliott and Evolution Band & Show.  On Saturday, July 12, 5pm – midnight, Jazz on the Ave with The Soul Unlimited Band and Show and others and Sunday, July 13, 3pm – 7pm, with Holy Ghost Party on the Ave features a Musical Tribute to the late Doris Bland by  her daughter, Nickia Bland Johnson in concert, the Bible-way Male Chorus and others. Virginia Repertory Theatre’s production of the Color Purple is playing at the November Theatre now through August 3rd. The show based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker follows the life and personal awakening of Celie. Virginia Rep’s Chase Kniffen, directs a talented cast of thirty-five  that includes Felicia Curry as Celie, Desiree Roots Centeio as Sofia, Carolyn Minor Daughtry as Shug Avery, Jerold Solomon as Mister and Josh Marin as Harpo as well as a live band. The Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre is compatible with all telecoil-equipped hearing aids and cochlear implants and a handheld receiver and headphone system is also available free of charge for anyone who is hearing impaired. The Wilkins, Chavis, Washington Family and Councilman W.
