Woman vanishes after leaving Virginia tiki bar

LANCASTER COUNTY, Va. – The search has expanded for Claudine Jaquier Gifford. The 43-year-old mother was reported missing in Lancaster County. She was last seen Sunday night leaving the Tiki Bar in White Stone, Virginia, with a man, according to Lancaster Sheriff’s Capt. Marty Shirilla.

“Ground and air search teams yesterday began working in the area from Windmill Point proper north towards White Stone,” Capt. Shirilla said. “Beginning today the operation expanded to include shoreline and shallow water searches, to include the creeks, on both the bay side and the river side from Windmill Point north.”

The Virginia Marine Police and the Virginia State Police have joined the search.

“This is still being worked as a missing person case,” Capt. Shirilla said. “The expanded actions are part of what are considered the normal, next steps to take under the circumstances in this case.”

Gifford is described as a 5’4″ white female who weighs about 112 pounds. She was last seen wearing a multicolored tank top, blue jeans and sandals.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call the Lancaster Sheriff’s Office at 804-462-5111 or Crime Solvers at 804-46-CRIME(462-7463).

Its not just the last couple weeks. It’s years. i have friends in other parts of the country that ask me what the hell is going on here because of all the missing people.

They know who he is and have spoken to him. And supposedly do not want to say too much that will “hurt the investigation”. ?? Its a very rural area here. One of those “everyone knows your name” kinda places. As far as finding her… I guess they feel his description is not absolutely needed. I have seen the terms “foul play suspected” used in other news updates. :-( We are all just hoping to find her safe.

@DEB. I agree. Also glad to hear that other police forces have joined the search.
@JOE comment “Missing? Or just getting laid like all the others?”. You obviously needed to express your inadequate interpersonal skills and ill humor in public media…Sorry you have to deal with such things but so glad you’ve found a way all the same.

Joe, you need to be enlightened quite a bit. I know this woman and you have no business making any kind of comments on this page. This is an extremely sensitive situation.

There must be some reason and info as to why they are doing the search they are doing. I am headed there tomorrow (today) for river weekend and will keep my eyes open, but it is so rural and it would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. That Tiki bar is usually packed on Friday and Saturdays, not sure about Sundays though. I hope she is safe, but it does not sound hopeful. :( My thoughts are with her family and friends.
